Subject: Biopsy Posted Date: Thursday, December 08, 2005 - 5:16 AM

Well, that last one worked. I Looked at it and did not feel like fainting in shame. How cathartic is will be remains to be seen, but in the flush of the moment of victory, I would like to add this to the pile. Biopsy. I had a liver biopsy last friday. I arrived at 7 am at Mass General Hospital. The receptionist called a nurse who came out and looked at me very soberly and told me a little about the proceedure. Then he asked me to strip to the waist and to pull on some hospital gowns. I got thirsty waiting for the whole even to get moving, and drank some water who stirred up unexpected consternation. the Nurse told me that I would have to wait three hours, or reschedule. I didnt want to reorder the courage to get this done, so I told him I would wait. Stragely, another nurse came in about 30 minutes later and took me in to begin. I suspected the chain of communicaiton was a little flawed and followed along. They took vitals and planted an IV in my arm. THen they asked if I had had anything to drink that monring and I lied.

They laid me down on a table and a doctor who looked younger than I am asked some questions and told me they were looking for Wilsons and hemochomatosis. What fun.

They started the sed with tubes in ym nose and everythign got warm and swimmy. Then the doc gave me a local in my side, and it hurt a bit, but when a later, deeper needle went in I started. THis was suprising for them. Someone said "he wasnt supposed to feel that". I feel lots of things.
I felt th long needle push between my ribs, and heard the soft "snick" when it cut a piece of my liver. Soon after, the doctor told me I was fine to get up, and they walked me to a bed, where I napped and drank some water. that was it. A little nasea and a lot of bandages, btu that is what a liver biopsy feels like.
